From these unselfconscious beginnings, classical style found perfect expression in the Doric and Ionic temples of the Greek city-states. The excellence of classical design is such that it has endured for more than two thousand years as the ideal of Western architecture. Moreover, the vocabulary of classical architecture-from acanthus to zoophorus-is not only alive but is enjoying yet another renaissance today. In Classical Architecture. Robert Adam traces the history of classical design to the present day and provides examples of virtually everyone of its applications. He shows how the style of classical architecture has been echoed, adapted, and refined in subsequent school, including those as diverse as Hellenistic, Romanesque, and Baroque. Adam draws on an enormous range of source material to illustrate different types of classical buildings, the evolution of its orders, and its theories of proportion, He demonstrates for the first time the extent to which the language of architecture pervades our own culture, and he also lays down essential guidelines for the correct application of its principles. A special feature of this unique handbook is the presentation of illustrative material alongside the discussion of each subject. This juxtaposition of text and drawings shows at a glance the ways in which different features of classicism have been interpreted, and examples include buildings and architectural details in North America and Europe. Each illustration has been painstakingly researched, carefully drawn, and presented with scale. Every element of classical design is here, including entire sections devote to brackets, mouldings, and decorative details, as well as to domes, arches, pediments, doors, porches, windows, and even fireplace surrounds.

A house is considered historic if it is typical of its period, usually more than 50 years old, and significant in either design, materials, workmanship, setting, and/or association. Waters and John L. Butler, tells the colorful 220-year story of a rugged frontier settlement that has evolved into the thriving city it is today. This 348-page second edition has been updated to include significant events of the past 20 years. One special chapter contains a remarkable collection of photographs, diagrams, and stories that chronicle the devastating tornado of 1999 and the city's remarkable recovery. Another chapter also records the deployment and return of Fort Campbell troops from Iraq in 2003-2004. Historic Clarksville is a revealing, absorbing account of a city founded at the confluence of the Cumberland and Red Rivers. From the flatboat flotilla that brought courageous settlers in 1780, and Clarksville's subsequent rise as a major tobacco center and port, to the trauma this city suffered from the Civil War, economic recovery forged by enterprising entrepreneurs in the age of industrialization, and historical highlights of the famed 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, you will get to know the personalities and events that are brought to life within these pages.

Historic Clarksville 1784-2004
Authors: Charles M. She details the factors that can change the course of a particular performance or an entire career. In the second half, Mabry draws on her wealth of personal stories to dig more deeply into such seemingly mundane but absolutely critical matters as personal health (illness, food allergies, insomnia), logistical challenges presented by venue location and performance dynamics, and the difficulties off-stage organized by the recording studio. In all instances, Mabry illustrates how perseverance, organization, attention to detail, excellent training, strong planning, a resilient support system, and a good sense of humor can lead to a successful and satisfying career during even the most difficult times.

“‘Sometimes it’s hard to know who your enemies are. The book includes details about some of those Suffragists and the tasks undertaken by volunteer researchers to rediscover their forgotten story. It is a story echoed in communities across the country, not of the famous stars of the Suffrage movement, but of dedicated advocates who persisted year after year in a small Middle Tennessee town. Thirty-nine women have been identified so far, with research continuing. Clarksville is erecting a statue, Tennessee Triumph, to honor and remember them in the 100th Anniversary of Woman Suffrage. Set against the backdrop of historical events such as wars, the emergence of new communities, and the challenges of frontier life, it offers a deeply personal yet universally resonant tale. The author delves into thematic depths exploring concepts of family legacy, spiritual awakening, and the undying human spirit to adapt and thrive amidst change. Each chapter not only chronicles individual milestones but also paints a vivid picture of the era's social customs, agricultural practices, and communal living.
